Winter has arrived...

Posted by Lewis White on

Finally.  We seemed to have an early fall but then the temps heated up again.  At last we are seeing some cold weather with 2 nights down in the low 20's. Not much compared to some of you but pretty good for around here. Of course, the relay in the old 1940's floor furnace picked this moment to burn out so that's on the immediate agenda for service this week.  Glad we have the fireplace as back up. Mrs LB is all about redundancy in anything life sustaining.  I have her to thank for forcing a house design that heats...

Whew!.....

Had wonderful weather at Rhinebeck.  Seemed a little warmer than normal to me but I may be wrong.  We are having a colder than normal snap down here and that may be throwing me off.  Show was good.  Wonderful to see everyone and thanks to all those that stopped by the booth.  Rushed home, caught a few ZZZZs, ran out for chicken feed and dog food and have been in a frenzy of repacking & restocking for SAFF in Asheville, N.C.  Our farrier visit is this afternoon and then I'll be hitting the road again.  Mrs LB started on the...

Yesterday we interrupted festival preparations for barn cleaning and sheep sorting.  You can say a couple of universal things about livestock.  First, if there is plenty of pasture and sunny weather.....they will gang up and relieve themselves in the barn to the point that the only description you can think of is cesspool.  The second universal thing is relating to draft horses and it's really quite simple.  Common sense you might say. They make the mess a hundred times bigger.  After we scraped and dug until we found the hallway floor mats again, the morning was mostly over and it...

Fall Shows Part 5....

Time is getting short!  We are sorting & packing .....and packing and sorting.  It never fails you think you have a particular item grouped in one spot, congratulate yourself on the wonderful progress you are making and how much farther along you are this year compared to years past.  You smile, pat yourself on the back again and start to work on something else.  Then you open a bag or box thinking that it's item B and there it is....more of what you thought you finished. Of course it's packaged in the wrong size, not packaged at all or you...
